Last night I attended the CWA Artist Reception and Awards for the California Watercolor Association 46th National Exhibition
I have to say, first, that it was an amazingly beautiful and versatile show… a feast for the eyes. Such variety of subject matter, style and technique. Watercolor has sure come a long way since I first started some 20 years ago.
Many artists who I’ve admired were part of the exhibition. I got to meet some of them, Susan Walsh Harper, for one, from Eureka, CA, who is a facebook friend.  What a delightful woman! I met Cathy Belleville, who’s work was hanging next to mine. She received the Bronze Award for her painting “Lunch with Icarus”.  I met Steve Walters and Barbara Kemp, Kathleen Ballard and Cara Brown. David Savellano came up and introduced himself. A couple of my former students were a part of the show… Arena Shawn and Barbara Killeen.  Everyone and everything was lovely!
My favorite piece in the show was by Hsiao-Hui Huang, “Orchid Melody”. But, there were so many amazing paintings!
I was thrilled to be a part of it, and to have received special recognition in the Salis International, Inc. Award. Dick Cole, Awards Juror, was the presenter… Here I am with him, below.
What a great venue too, right in the Cannery Galleries on Leavenworth St in San Francisco. The show runs from Jan 5 – Feb 28, 2016.
Thank you, California Watercolor Association!
